Basics of random sampling (7th grade math lesson)

I explain the two requirements for a sample to be a random sample: each participant has to have an equal chance of being selected, and the researcher needs to do the selecting (no self-selection). We look at an example of two political polls - one was a convenience poll with self-selection and the other was a truly random sample.

Then we look at several methods for obtaining a sample for a survey and discuss whether or not those methods would produce a truly random sample.
