Once students have learned about division, it is time to learn a bit about the order of operations. You can draw a "bubble" or a "cloud" around the operation to be done first! That will make it kind of fun. :) This lesson uses the four basic operations plus parenthesis (no exponents or roots yet).
In the 2nd part of the lesson, we look at simple EXPRESSIONS or "number sentences" that use several operations at once. First, the task is to write an expression that matches a verbal sentence, such as "subtract the product of 10 and 6 from 100". Lastly we have to figure out which of the given expressions matches the real-life situation.
