How to round decimals to a given place/digit (5th grade math)

The rounding rules for decimals are the same as for whole numbers. I like drawing a line right after the digit/place I'm rounding to. If the digit in that place is 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9, you round up; otherwise down. With decimals, the main difference is, the digits after the digit you're rounding to are just cut off (not replaced with zeros).

We also look at the situation with nines and how to round, say, 0.295 to the nearest hundredth.
