Installation instructions for Soft-Pak
Legal Notice: These copyrighted programs are
for individual family use at home and programs may NOT be provided to
any other individual or institution. You must have been provided with
the directions by Softbasics Software, after payment has been sent to Softbasics or paid to Math Mammoth or one of
its sellers, to use these programs. Any persons or institutions that have not purchased these programs for full use may NOT download or use these programs. Paid users may install these programs on ALL computers in their home that are
used by the parents, guardians, tutors, and children.
OVERVIEW
On your computer, the Windows ADMINISTRATOR (the one who creates the
other user profiles and maintains the password etc.) should be logged in
when downloading and installing. This assures that you have
the "rights" to install software on the system. Windows may challenge
the install if a child or other user without the rights is
logged on. To install on a computer that is used by the children, check
the settings in Windows to make sure the installer has the rights to
install software.
The other option is, when you get to "Step 2" below, you right-click and choose "Run as administrator".
Think of this process in 2 basic parts: UNZIP, then INSTALL.
Step 1: Basically, you will have
received the Soft-Pak installation files within your Math Mammoth
download. The Math Mammoth download file is in compressed
form (a zip file), so you need to "UNZIP" it — also called "extracting". Once you unzip this file, you will then install
the Soft-Pak.
Step 2: You then simply run the
setup.exe (if you're not logged in as administrator, right-click and choose "Run as administrator") found in the directory created by the
zip file, and the Soft-Pak is installed.
NOTE: Do not move the installation files deep into the folder structure before installation. Some users have had problems with such, where the installer says that it cannot copy the setup.lst file, and cancels the installation.
So, run the setup.exe file from the download folder (after unzipping), and do not move it before unzip/run step.
NOTE to WINDOWS 8 USERS: When installing,
simply select the TILE side (rather than the older DESKTOP option) and
run the setup.exe file once you have unzipped the soft-pak.zip ZIP file.
This will automatically install the 6 Soft-Pak programs and create a TILE for each. You need only click the TILE to run
each or you may start typing the NAME of each program (Math Maker, Math
Master etc) and Win 8 will search and run the program. You will NOT need
to create desktop icons for each as with Win Vista or 7, so disregard those steps below if using Win 8.
NOTE to WINDOWS 10 USERS: When installing on Windows 10, select the classic DESKTOP option.
Once installed, click the Windows ICON and select ALL APPS. Scroll down to the S's for the Softbasics Soft-Pak and choose
any of the 6 Soft-Pak programs for use.
DETAILED STEPS to FOLLOW
If you received Soft-Pak on a Math Mammoth CD, skip steps 1-3.
- Download the Math Mammoth zip file.
-
Navigate to the directory where you DOWNLOADED the Math Mammoth zip file (use FILES EXPLORER). This could be your default download folder or some other folder you selected when starting the download.
- UNZIP (extract) the Math Mammoth zip file. Most likely, you do that by RIGHT-clicking the zip file and choosing "Extract...". If, instead, you have downloaded Soft-Pak as a single zip file, then unzip that. Either way, after unzipping/extracting, the Soft-Pak files are placed in the Soft-Pak folder for use in installing.
- Navigate to the Soft-Pak folder. There, select the SETUP.EXE file to run. That will install
the Soft-Pak.
- NOTE: setup
checks to see if your system has any newer system files than those being
installed and offers to let you keep them, if so. Should this occur,
select YES when prompted to retain the newer
version you already may have.
- Once installed, click START, PROGRAMS,
then SELECT SOFTBASICS SOFTPAK and choose any of the 6 programs.
If desired, removal of the Soft-Pak may be done by using the automatic
removal option provided in your specific Windows system.
Thank you and hope you enjoy the programs!
